Celebration of International Women's Day 2012

4 March 2012

On Sunday 4 March 2012 more than 45 women of all faiths and none came together to celebrate International Women’s Day 2012 hosted by the Muslim and Jewish Forum of Greater Manchester. The event was filled with art and drama workshops and was held at Manchester Town Hall. Through creative dialogues including poetry, story-telling and stain glass window making, the women took part in personal and group reflections in order to explore the skills they possessed. One participant said she enjoyed the opportunity to really learn about skills she didn’t know she had and to hear about other women’s skills and experiences. She was also excited to take home a piece of art that she was proud of.

Workshop facilitators Nikki Mailer and Laura Nathan felt it was “really beneficial that this year’s event also welcomed women from all backgrounds as well as Muslim and Jewish women”. Participants also said that the event was a great opportunity to meet “lots of different and inspirational women who you may never have met and to be able and to experience the same things.”

One participant summarised the event beautifully stating “I really enjoyed talking to other women, reigniting my imagination and creativity.”

The picture below has some of the participants showing off the stain glass windows they created in the art workshop.
