Tenth annual interfaith picnic in Platt Fields Park

31 July 2016

On Sunday 31 July, we held our 10th annual picnic in Platt Fields Park, Fallowfield, Manchester. The date coincided with the Manchester Mega Mela (South Asian festival) which was also held in the same park.

30 people, spread across the generations, attended the picnic as several parents joined in the fun together with their children.

The participants brought and shared their own plentiful and varied food. As well as the usual sandwiches, fish balls, pitta bread, salads and fruit, the guests also brought along home cooked food which included an Iraqi savoury dish, an Asian potato dish and a plum and potato desert.

There was a very friendly atmosphere and the weather was favourable for a picnic as it was sunny and warm throughout.

Farzana Afzal of Cheadle said

"I had an amazing time. Everyone made a great effort to come along from different areas of Greater Manchester. There was a variety of food to be shared. I would like to thank Forum Co-Chair Councillor Heather Fletcher and the other organisers who put together this event, it was indeed a great opportunity to get to know each other in an informal setting"

Louise Brook of Prestwich said:

"The picnic at Platt Fields was fun and an extremely interesting event. Food of all cultures was available and we all enjoyed chatting with each other for the whole afternoon"

Below is a group photo of the participants.
