Forum's Quiz shows interfaith can be fun

For the past 14 years, the Forum has believed that the best way forward to bring Muslims, Jews, and others together is by holding events that people attend because they are fun, rather than attending from a sense of duty.

On Sunday 17 March 2019, we held our 3rd annual Quiz at Salford Civic Centre in Swinton.

Before the Quiz commenced, we held a one minute silence was held for the victims of the Christchurch terrorist attack against two mosques.

The attendees were welcomed were by Councillor Heather Fletcher, in her dual capacity of Co-Chair of the Forum and as the local Councillor as we were in her ward of Swinton South.

Fifty people attended. Muslims, Jews, Christians and Humanists were there, with a warm, friendly, but very competitive, atmosphere as the teams battled it out for pole position.

The Quizmasters were popular local Quiz expert and retired school teacher, Steven Pearlman and local interfaith and community activist, Jonny Wineberg, who is also a former Co-Chair of the Forum. They combined well to ensure that the quiz was both challenging and entertaining.

The winners were the "Swine Town Spinners" team, although it was a very closely fought contest with all six teams scoring well. On the winning team were:

The winners generously donated their prize money to the Forum.

Sharmina August who is a Muslim and was on the winning team and was attending her first Forum event said:

"The Muslim Jewish Forum Quiz was an excellent event and I had a lot of fun. The questions were over a really broad range of topics so everyone got a chance to join in and show their expertise! I am looking forward to next year's Quiz."

Jennie Goldstone who is Jewish and was also attending her first Forum event stated "I really enjoyed the evening. It was a lovely cross community event which is needed."
